JAGDALPUR: Gujarat chief minister and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Thursday attacked Bihar's chief minister Nitish Kumar and called his government "insensitive" and "tyrannical", saying top people in state administration were feasting when they heard about the blasts before the BJP's rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
Slamming Nitish Kumar for his post-blast conduct, Modi — who was addressing a rally here at Lal Bag ground — said the "arrogant" state government had even refused to order a probe to ascertain if negligence had led to the blasts during his party's rally.
"Such a big incident had taken place in Patna and the people in the government there were having sumptuous meals ... there was no sign of pain on their faces. The body language and words used indicated as if some happy event had taken place," Modi said while comparing Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh with Nitish Kumar.
The Gujarat chief minister cited the example of Singh's conduct after the Darbha Ghati incident where many leaders of the Congress were killed by Maoists in May. Modi said Singh had not only cancelled all his ongoing programmes in the state but had also ordered a judicial probe into the incident and visited family members of the deceased. On the other hand, one could see what Bihar government did after the Patna incident.
Throwing a question to "political pandits" asking them to judge themselves as to who was fight and who was wrong, Modi asked the gathering — mostly tribal villagers of Bastar — to look what the "tyrant" government in Bihar did after Patna blast and what the "sensitive" government of Chhattisgarh did after the Maoist incident.
Addressing his first rally of the day before moving to Kanker, Modi — while referring to post-Patna blast reaction of Bihar government — said that when a journalist asked whether there had been any laxity on the part of the state administration, the response he got was that 'forget negligence, there is no need for a judicial probe, either'.
Without taking Nitish Kumar's name, Modi alleged that the behaviour exhibited was such that it befitted a person who could "back stab" others for political gains.
Serial blasts were carried out by terrorists of Indian Mujahideen just before Modi's rally in Patna on October 27.
Though the Gujarat chief minister was advised by the state police and central intelligence agencies' officials not to go ahead with his schedule to address the rally after the blast, Modi and other top leadership of the BJP decided to continue with their plan to address the rally at the famous Gandhi Maidan which witnessed a mammoth crowd on the fateful day.
