JAGDALPUR: Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a blistering attacked on Nitish Kumar, calling his government "insensitive" and "tyrannical". He claimed top Bihar administrators were holding a feast when bombs were going off at the Gandhi Maidan in Patna, venue of a rally he was to address on October 27. Addressing a public meeting at the Lal Bag ground here, Modi tore into the Bihar CM for his post-blast conduct. "The arrogant" state government, he said, even refused to order a probe to ascertain if negligence had led to the blasts.
"Such a big incident had taken place in Patna and people in the government there were having a sumptuous meal in Rajgir... they showed no signs of pain or remorse. The body language and words used were as if some happy event had taken place," Modi said comparing Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh's reaction to the May 25 Maoist attack on Chhattisgarh Congress leaders with the Bihar CM's response to the Patna incident. Raman Singh, Modi said, cancelled his scheduled appointments and rushed to console the families of Congress leaders who had died in the Darbha Ghati attack. He had also ordered a judicial probe into the incident.
This was in sharp contrast to the Bihar government's reaction. Judge for yourself who was right and who wrong, he threw a question at "political pandits". Talking to mostly tribal villagers, he said look at what the "tyrant" Bihar government did after the blasts and how the "sensitive" Chhattisgarh administration reacted after the Maoist incident.
Addressing his first rally of the day here before moving to Kanker, Modi said when a journalist asked about possible laxity on the part of the Bihar administration, he was told: Forget negligence, there is no need for a judicial probe. Without naming Nitish Kumar, he alleged that the behaviour was such that it befitted a person who could "back stab" for political gains.
